What’s next in cybersecurity? (and how FGS & Tanium are helping clients stay ahead)

We sit down with Kate Houlihan and Lorenz Van Look at Tanium to talk latest cybersecurity and systems management solutions and the future of a modern partnership approach.

Live at December’s cybersecurity event, we were delighted to welcome Tanium’s Kate Houlihan, Director of Strategic Accounts, and Lorenz Van Look, Account Director of Emerging Enterprise, to our pop-up FGS TV studio. Peter Stroud, CEO of FGS, cut to the chase, digging into what Kate and Lorenz see as the biggest cybersecurity successes of 2024, the transformative technology that’s empowering tech leaders to tackle threats, and what we can all expect from the Tanium and FGS collaboration.

Kate:

“I’m six months into my role at Tanium, but I’ve been collaborating with FGS for over 10 years. The difference I see at Tanium is the transformative role we play in client cybersecurity journeys, across the banking, university, defence, and healthcare sectors. Clients rely on and trust in Tanium as one source of truth, as a single agent to deploy patch management, screen sharing for asset management, and for vulnerability scanning as well.”

Lorenz:

“That’s right, Kate. As an endpoint management and security platform, Tanium gives companies real-time, instant visibility of their endpoints, and also enables clients to take instant action. Tanium’s core function is about gaining a comprehensive understanding of your endpoint environment. It’s about identifying what’s out there, what assets you have, and then communicating with those endpoints in real-time. The key is to quickly determine: What vulnerabilities do I have? Tanium enables this immediate insight and response, transforming how you manage and secure your network.

With Tanium you can do it all: patching, deploying software, you name it. When Tanium is deployed, companies usually find they have between 15 and 20% more endpoints than they thought they had. This data is backed by Forrester. The implication of this is that you don’t know what software is running, or what vulnerabilities you have.

While it doesn’t matter how many endpoints you have – Tanium can be deployed whether you have 300 endpoints or 3 million endpoints – it is incredibly useful to consider an example that shows the eye-watering speed and scale of how we can do things. The great example I like to cite is the US Airforce, they have more than a million endpoints. When the Monocryl vulnerability hit, we scanned a million endpoints, found 300,000 devices that were impacted, we deployed a patch on those devices, scanned, rebooted, and ensured they had 99%+ compliance in just 45 minutes… 45 minutes!”

Peter:

“Wow. That really is a great story and speaks to the transformative nature of Tanium. Culturally, I personally really enjoy working with Tanium. I believe in the product. We’ve never seen it not work; it has always come up trumps. That’s special.”At FGS we only deal with enterprise scale clients.  Security is everything now, and if you can identify and react to it in real time there is nothing bigger than that.  It’s the difference between instant business life or death.  If you can reduce costs at the same time it’s a game changer.  The Tanium solution does that.”
